The process of bringing rescue dogs into the program is called Intake. Volunteer positions in this area include:
- Intake coordinators
- Transporters
- Vet office liaisons
Intake coordinators check the information line for messages, return calls and the process begins. The intake coordinator finds a transporter for the dog; makes an appointment with one of our predefined veterinary clinics; locates an approved NRGRR foster; and provides appropriate NRGRR personnel with all required information regarding the new addition to the program. The intake coordinator maintains contact with the foster and oversees the medical treatment of the rescue dog until they go to their forever home.
As a volunteer transporter you may bring in a dog from relatively close by or from a distance away. In some cases, we use a “relay team” so that no one volunteer has to drive too far. Our transport volunteers typically form some initial impressions of the dog during the trip, and your observations can be very helpful to the intake coordinator, vet and/or foster.
We currently work with four veterinary clinics and each clinic has a vet office liaison assigned. These volunteers work to maintain the lines of communication between NRGRR and their specific clinic. They also insure that the clinic has all required NRGRR forms and supplies.
